Setting up your Stryd footpod

You don’t need a running watch to use the Stryd footpod – you can use Stryd with your mobile phone.

Once you’ve installed the Stryd Mobile app from Google Play or the App Store, open the mobile app and follow the prompts to:

  • create a login to Stryd PowerCenter
  • pair your footpod to the mobile app
  • set your height and weight

Height & weight settings

As explained in the Settings for all Watches/Power Meters book chapter, it’s important to ‘set and forget’ your height and weight.

Instructions for setting your height and weight are on the Stryd website.

Height and Weight are entered in the Stryd mobile app for iOS.

Auto-lap, Auto-pause, Auto-calibrate, Recording Frequency

These settings are not available when using Stryd with a mobile phone.

Adjusting what's displayed on your mobile

To start a run on your mobile, change to the calendar view then select the plus [+] icon at the top right of the screen. You mobile will connect to your footpod.

When ready, select the blue triangle to start your run.

Unfortunately, you cannot customise the display.

Power Averaging

Power averaging is explained in the Settings for all Watches/Power Meters book chapter.

The Stryd Mobile App shows real-time power.

Displaying power, pace and heart rate

Some of the activities in the book ask you to display power, pace and HR on your watch so that you can keep track of changes in those metrics as you begin to experience running with power.

Unfortunately, while it is possible to see pace using the Mobile App (drag up from the bottom of the screen), it’s not possible to see heart rate, as neither the footpod nor your mobile has a sensor that can monitor heart rate.

Moving to the next lap

Select the next lap symbol at the top right of the display (a triangle connected to a line).

Additional Stryd metrics

The Stryd footpod offers a number of additional metrics that can be viewed (and analysed) in Stryd PowerCenter, such as Air Power, Form Power, Leg Spring Stiffness, and Impact Loading Rate – see Stryd’s website for more information.

These metrics are recorded in your workout file and uploaded along with your power data. There is no additional step you need to complete to make these metrics available.

Using structured workouts

You can create structured workouts (with multiple steps, often used for interval workouts) using the Stryd mobile app.

To execute a structured workout, select the workout (from the calendar) then select start workout.

Uploading completed workouts

Completed workouts will be uploaded to Stryd PowerCenter by the Stryd Mobile app.
