Adjusting what's displayed on your watch
Garmin watches allow users to customize which metrics are displayed during activities. Each activity type (run, walk) can have different settings.
Adjusting what’s displayed for each watch model is described in Owners Manuals on the Garmin website.
pbRun datafield
Another option you may want to use is the pbRun datafield. This datafield is covered in the pbRun page.
Power Averaging
Power averaging is explained in the Settings for all Watches/Power Meters book chapter.
Garmin watches offer real-time, 30s smoothed and lap power.
pbRun datafield
Another option that you may want to use is the pbRun datafield, which offers additional options for smoothed power, as well as last lap power. This datafield is covered in the pbRun page.
Displaying power, pace and heart rate
Some of the activities in the book ask you to display power, pace and HR on your watch so that you can keep track of changes in those metrics as you begin to experience running with power.
To do this, choose a layout showing at least three metrics, and include real-time power, pace and heart rate as displayed metrics.

Using structured workouts
You can create structured workouts (with multiple steps, often used for interval workouts) using the Garmin Connect website or the Garmin Connect mobile app, as described in Creating a custom workout on the Garmin website.
You can also create structured workouts using TrainingPeaks, Final Surge, Intervals.icu or other 3rd-party websites.
Once created (and for 3rd-party websites, synced to Garmin Connect), structured workouts are downloaded to your watch using native Garmin functionality.
When you start a run, if there is a workout planned for that day your watch will ask if you want to execute the workout. Alternatively, you can use the training menu on your watch to find and select a structured workout.
Uploading completed workouts
Completed workouts will be uploaded to Garmin Connect.
If you want completed workouts uploaded to other apps (for reviewing), you should connect your Garmin account to those apps, either connecting from Garmin Connect to the other apps, or connecting the other apps to Garmin Connect.
