Final Surge Beta / Mobile

Free for athletes, Final Surge offers the ability to plan power-based workouts or to use pre-built workouts and training plans (some free, some paid).

It can download power-based workouts to Apple Watch and other running watches.

It presents some individual workout metrics.

If you’re a coach, it also includes integrated coach-athlete functionality.

Planning

1.P – Plans. Are there power-based training plans for various event distances/experience levels? Or can you connect to a coach who can provide planned workouts?

  • Final Surge offers a library of power-based training plans (P), or you can build your own using the free-to-use app.
  • You can choose from a directory of coaches. Once connected, your coach can schedule planned workouts into your calendar.

1.C – Customisation. Can you adjust training plans, create your own plans, and build your own workouts?

  • You can adjust training plans, create your own plans, and build your own workouts using features that are free to runners.

2.D – Download. Can planned workouts be downloaded for execution?

  • You can download planned workouts for free from Final Surge to Garmin, COROS and Suunto watches. You can also sync planned workouts to the Stryd ecosystem.
  • You can download planned workouts to Apple Watches (using the Final Surge app), but only if you use the Apple Workout app to execute the workout.

3.P – Power. Can you choose various ways to display power while running, at a minimum: real-time power; lap power? Can you display power in Watts/kg or as a percentage or threshold power?

  • Final Surge does not offer a workout app.

3.G – Guided workouts. Can the app guide you through a structured workout – a workout with multiple steps, each with their own target and duration?

  • Final Surge does not offer a workout app.

Upload

4.U – Upload. Can completed workouts be uploaded for reviewing?

  • You can upload completed workouts into Final Surge from all sports watch brands and from Apple Health. You can also sync completed workouts to/from the Stryd ecosystem.

Reviewing

5.W – Workout review. Can you review workout summary data and detailed (per second) workout data? Can you review workout compliance (actual vs. target)?

  • Final Surge provides summary metrics for completed runs, including workout averages, ‘peaks’ by duration or distance and time in zones.
  • Final Surge does not provide second-by-second numbers.
  • Final Surge does not provide actuals vs. target.

5.M – Metrics. Does the app provide power metrics, at a minimum: threshold power; training load balance; a power-duration curve? Does it also provide ramp rate or running effectiveness?

  • Final Surge does not offer any multi-workout metrics.

5.E – Events. Does the app offer a way to calculate power targets for upcoming events and races?

  • Final Surge does not offer a race/event calculator.

Coaching

6.C – Coaching. Is it possible to coach athletes using the app, at a minimum: multiple athletes, reviewing results/metrics? Can you also provide planned workouts, or communicate with your athletes?

  • Coaches can accept connections from multiple runners.
  • Coaches can plan workouts for their runners, review completed workouts and see per-runner metrics.
  • Two-way communication is available via comments on individual workouts.
