TrainingPeaks WebApp / Mobile
TrainingPeaks allows you to plan, track, and analyse your training all in one place. You can sync your account with your favourite apps and devices for real-time workout guidance and monitor your fitness progress with powerful data tools. Plus, training plans and coaching services guide you along the way.
The browser-based WebApp summarises uploaded workouts and fitness data, and you can use it with a training plan or with a coach. Premium adds the ability to plan workouts, analyse fitness trends and more.
The Mobile app provides on the go access to planned and completed workouts, along with a Performance Management Chart to monitor your training.
TrainingPeaks is available to runners for free. Some features require a subscription to TrainingPeaks Premium.

Planning
1.P – Plans. Are there power-based training plans for various event distances/experience levels? Or can you connect to a coach who can provide planned workouts?
- The WebApp app offers a library of (paid) power-based training plans
- You can find an accredited coach from a directory of coaches or using coach-match. Once connected, your coach can schedule planned workouts into your calendar.
1.C – Customisation. Can you adjust training plans, create your own plans, and build your own workouts?
- TrainingPeaks Premium ($) enables you to adjust training plans, create your own plans, and build your own workouts.
Download
2.D – Download. Can planned workouts be downloaded for execution?
- You can download planned workouts for free from TrainingPeaks to Garmin, COROS, Wahoo, Suunto and Polar watches. You can also sync planned workouts to the Stryd ecosystem.
- You can download planned workouts to Apple Watches (using the TrainingPeaks app), but only if you use the Apple Workout app to execute the workout.
Execution
3.P – Power. Can you choose various ways to display power while running, at a minimum: real-time power; lap power? Can you display power in Watts/kg or as a percentage or threshold power?
- TrainingPeaks does not offer a workout app
3.G – Guided workouts. Can the app guide you through a structured workout – a workout with multiple steps, each with their own target and duration?
- TrainingPeaks does not offer a workout app
Upload
4.U – Upload. Can completed workouts be uploaded for reviewing?
- You can upload completed workouts into TrainingPeaks from all sports watch brands and from Apple Health. You can also sync completed workouts to/from the Stryd ecosystem.
Reviewing
5.W – Workout review. Can you review workout summary data and detailed (per second) workout data? Can you review workout compliance (actual vs. target)?
- Both apps provide summary metrics for completed runs, including workout averages, ‘peaks’ by duration or distance, time in zones and per-lap averages. The apps do not provide second-by-second numbers, and they do not provide actuals vs. target.
5.M – Metrics. Does the app provide power metrics, at a minimum: threshold power; training load balance; a power-duration curve? Does it also provide ramp rate or running effectiveness?
- Neither app calculates threshold power (instead relying on WKO for that).
- Both apps present a Performance Management Chart showing cumulative training loads (shorter-term and longer-term) and training load balance (called ‘stress balance’).
- Neither app charts a Power-Duration Curve (instead relying on WKO for that).
- Neither app provides a weekly Ramp Rate, but you can manually track Ramp Rate using CTL from the Performance Management Chart.
- Neither app provides running effectiveness (instead relying on WKO for that).
- Neither app offers custom metrics.
5.E – Events. Does the app offer a way to calculate power targets for upcoming events and races?
- TrainingPeaks does not offer a race/event calculator.
Coaching
6.C – Coaching. Is it possible to coach athletes using the app, at a minimum: multiple athletes, reviewing results/metrics? Can you also provide planned workouts, or communicate with your athletes?
- Coaches can accept connections from multiple runners (depending on runner and coach subscriptions).
- Once connected, coaches can can plan workouts for their runners, and review completed workouts and per-runner metrics.
- Two-way communication is available via comments on individual workouts.
